EVLA – Endovenous Laser Ablations

Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) is an advanced, minimally invasive procedure that effectively treats varicose veins through the use of laser energy. Performed in our on-site, state-of-the-art outpatient facility, this short procedure offers those suffering from the daily struggles, discomfort, and embarrassment of unsightly varicose veins remarkable results without the risks of surgery and general anesthesia and without painful or extended periods of recovery. As one of the preferred methods for treating even the largest varicose veins, EVLA improves the look of skin and interior vascular health with an overwhelmingly high success rate.

How does the EVLA Procedure work?
After a comprehensive evaluation during which our highly skilled physicians will use venous ultrasound to determine which veins are not working well and what course of action will be taken, we can use EVLA to directly target the affected area. Endovenous laser ablation is a nonsurgical procedure during which the targeted vein is identified and treated from within.

The affected vein is accessed using ultrasound guidance and a catheter, or tube, is used to allow the laser fiber to enter the vein. Local anesthesia is then applied to keep a constant temperature environment around the vein during the procedure, numb the area being treated, and make the vein collapse on top of the fiber. The laser is then activated and the laser fiber is pulled through the vein incrementally. As opposed to old treatments in which the vein was completely removed from the leg, EVLA works by shrinking the vein from within and allowing it to remain in the leg.

Many of our patients are often surprised by the simplicity, quickness, and near painlessness of endovenous laser ablation. As the entry point through which the laser fiber reaches the target area is so small and because no veins are surgically removed, EVLA eliminates the need for painful surgery, general anesthesia, and lengthy recovery. Patients are able to walk out from the 15 – 20 minute procedure and usually resume normal daily activities immediately, although we require a compression stocking to be worn for a short time. Physical activity, including walking, is encouraged to aid in a faster recovery and less bruising.

Achieve the Results You Deserve
Depending on the severity of your condition, multiple treatments or comprehensive treatment may be needed to obtain optimal results. Our team can examine the results of your first treatment to determine your available options and how to best achieve the results you desire. In cases that involve even the largest varicose veins, endovenous laser ablation has proven to be a safe and highly effective treatment for rejuvenating the appearance of the legs and improving the health of damaged veins.
